About Me
Hi! I’m Zhan Kang, a Junior at SUTD in the CSD Pillar (Computer Science and Design).
I’m drawn to applied machine learning: less the theory for its own sake, and more the part where you take a messy real-world problem and get something to work. I like picking up new skills and libraries just to see what they can do, and every so often one of them actually sticks and changes how I work. Right now I’m digging into building a core library, understanding what is going on in the linux man7 page (which is kinda confusing not gonna lie)…
Apart from being a CS nerd, I like distance running, as well as badminton. I once (and still dreaming) of representing Singapore, with Richard Heng as my inspiration - and while I’m not there, the discipline of it still shapes how I approach most things. Running (and the occasional badminton game or hike) is also how I clear my head and stay close to friends.
I love doing volunteering activities. I’ve delivered meals through Meals-on-Wheels to elderly esidents with mobility issues, and helped run activities at a senior activity centre in Taman Jurong. There’s something grounding about it that I keep coming back to. I’m currently volunteering with Budding Minds.
